If it’s your first time visiting a barn, you should know what to wear to be safe and comfortable while horseback riding. However, you don’t want to look bad just because you’re in the saddle – you can wear proper gear and still look chic. We’ve listed some essential equipment in this post that’ll keep you comfortable, safe, and stylish while horseback riding.
The basics set the foundation of your outfit
The first thing you should invest in for your new hobby is the basic clothing, i.e. the clothes you wear while visiting the barn and while you’re horseback riding.
First of all, you need a sturdy pair of riding breeches with functional fabrics that are fast-drying, UV-protective, and have minimal seams to keep you comfortable while riding. Consider choosing a pair in a beige or black shade to easily match the breeches with the rest of your outfit. It’s great if the breeches are compressive, as it makes you look fit.
Next, you’ll need some kind of undershirt to act as a first layer. Whether this is a functional sweater, a t-shirt or a knitted sweater depends on where you’ll be riding. If you’re riding during summer, a t-shirt or a light shirt will be enough to protect you from the sun. During the winter, a thicker sweater is preferable to keep you warm.
Protect your head and feet
Besides basic clothing to make you look good and feel comfortable, you’ll of course need to protect your head and feet with a helmet and a pair of durable riding boots.
Riding boots come in a variety of models and designs, so it’s important to choose a pair that suits you. They should be comfortable and carry functions in line with their purpose, but you also want to choose a pair that doesn’t look too bulky so you can feel stylish. The boots should neither be too tight nor too loose, so as not to damage your feet – which is a risk with all horses, regardless of breed. You should be able to wear them all year round, in winter with a thicker pair of socks, and not the least be water resistant!
As for the helmet, it’s incredibly important that it fits well and comfortably. After all, helmets have a significant impact on the outcome of an accident. Before buying a helmet, you should try it on in the shop. It has to protect your forehead, temples, and neck, so you need to make sure it fits your head shape perfectly. Again, there are many models to choose from, so make sure the helmet looks good on you too!
Finish off with functional and stylish accessories
Finally, you can start considering the last parts, such as the belt, waist bag, and gloves. These are very functional and should be used by everyone who does horseback riding, although of course, they aren’t as important as the boots and helmet, for example. But it’s the accessories that can make your outfit extra unique! So be sure to get a stylish waist bag, a statement belt, and a pair of elegant gloves to complete your look.
