Tapiture’s sire (father) was 2004 Derby runner Tapit, who finished 9th behind Smarty Jones. Tapiture is trying to get into the Churchill Downs gate for the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. This chestnut colt is trained by Steve Asmussen (of Rachel Alexandra fame) and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds — owner of Winchell’s Donuts.
