Beautiful story of Sandra and Douwe This video was taken at the Safe Haven Farm Annual Open House in Durham, ME on May 16th, 2015. It was Douwe’s birthday that day so I dedicated our routine to our partnership together. I consider him my “diamond in the rough”. Douwe is a 14 year old Friesian gelding that was imported from Holland as a driving horse, trained saddleseat and then sold as a trail horse to an island off the coast of Maine. He didn’t like the idea of being a trail horse and became dangerous, bucking and bolting. It certainly was fate that we were brought together 6 years ago. It hasn’t been easy and we have had to work through a lot together but Douwe is the smartest and most emotionally complicated horse I have worked with in my 20 years of training horses. I have really learned how to think outside the box! I absolutely love performing and being creative with my horses. I hope you enjoy this new routine with some veil work that we have been playing with over the winter months.
