Willie Mullins dominated the headlines on the second day of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival as he etched his name into sporting folklore as he recorded a 100th winner at Jump Racing’s Olympics courtesy of Jasmin De Vaux’s success in the Champion Bumper. The win book-ended a treble on the card which began with sumptuous performances from Ballyburn (Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle) and Fact To File (Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase).
However, there would be disappointment for the Closutton maestro as hot favourite El Fabiolo was pulled-up in the Champion Chase after making a shuddering error. The Henry De Bromhead-trained Captain Guinness went on to take full advantage and added another championship event on to Rachael Blackmore’s impressive CV.
Dan Skelton made sure the Brits got in on the act in the handicaps as Langer Dan became the first horse to win two renewals of the Coral Cup, whilst Unexpected Party ran out a smart winner of the Grand Annual.
