The Best Moments at the Royal Ascot

The Royal Ascot has a rich history and has created some very memorable moments. Whether you like a flutter on the races using the popular Irish bookie BoyleSports betting platform or are someone who enjoys the social aspect, horse racing has delivered us with some unforgettable scenes. Here, we will look at the best and most memorable moments of the Royal Ascot.

Black Caviar Races to Victory

Fans of horse racing will certainly have the name Black Caviar etched into their memories. This famous Australian racehorse has been hugely successful. She was already a well-known name in the industry before entering the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Going into the race with 21 consecutive wins under her belt, she was always going to be the bookies’ favourite. However, this wasn’t quite the walk in the park everyone expected and all of her skills were really put to the test.

After getting off to a great start, she took the race at the start and got off to what many believed to be an unassailable lead. Throughout the majority of the race, she held firm and stayed ahead of the pack. However, as the race came towards its closing stages it all started to change. The others started making ground and her lead was gradually being swallowed up. Nothing was certain anymore. But, right at the last minute, Luke Noleen steered her to victory and the race – and the horse took a place in the Royal Ascot history books.

Choisir’s Big Win

Unlike Black Caviar, Choisir went into his memorable race as a relative unknown in the horse racing world. Choisir entered the 2003 King Stakes and horse racing fans didn’t really hold out many expectations. However, the term ‘dark horse’ may well have been penned just for him.

He managed to stun spectators at the Royal Ascot by demonstrating speed and skills that no one had expected. He gave none of the other horses a chance throughout the entire race. He started from the front and he remained there for the entire time and made it look easy. That same year he also went on to claim victory at the Golden Jubilee Stakes and take second place in the July Cup – and thus was born a Royal Ascot horse racing legend.

Frankie Dettori Leads Lady Aurelia to a Breathtaking Win

One of the best performances ever seen in the Royal Ascot was provided by the American Thoroughbred racehorse, Lady Aurelia ridden by Frankie Dettori. She has now gone down in horse racing history as one of the best fillies in the world. She started as a promising young horse and blew expectations out of the water – along with the competition by 2016.

From her very first race, Lady Aurelia was regarded as the favourite to win and in 2016, at the Queen Mary Stakes, her name became legend. Her trainer, Wesley Ward, had already won the race twice and saw this as the perfect opportunity to get his third.

Frankie Dettori was in the saddle and took her for the ride of her life that day. Right from the very start of the race, she started off strong – and she continued at this pace throughout. The lead got bigger, the speed got faster, and by the time she finished the race, she was more than seven lengths ahead of her nearest rival. The Racing Horse Post described this win as one of the most ‘devastating displays’ that has ever been witnessed in recent times at Royal Ascot.

She then took off to France to race in the Group One Prix Morny and took yet another victory – but by a smaller margin. Then, the year after this, Lady Aurelia managed another win at Ascot, this time beating the boys in the King’s Stand Stakes. She enjoyed huge success, having made $834,945 in earnings. In addition, in 2016, she was also awarded the Cartier Champion two-year-old filly.

The beauty of the Royal Ascot is that it offers entertainment on a grand scale. From shock wins to shock defeats. This event has created legends and made household names of young and promising thoroughbreds. Horse racing betting fans watch year after year to enjoy the best action in the sport and some of the most memorable events in the world.
