The ball of excitement and entertainment that is the Cheltenham Festival is almost upon us now as Festival Trial Day marks the official start to the road to Cheltenham. With 2020 forced to cancel due to the surging of the coronavirus, all eyes will be on the 2021 event with even higher expectations and anticipation, as the authorities and organisers adjust to the new normal imposed by the virus. Before The Festival arrives we will have to whet appetites with the Festival Trial Day and that £1,000,000 Paddy Power is offering a lucky fan, and then the Road
to Cheltenham races, as we ride in style to The Festival. After what should be a pumped day one, day two of the event should be just as entertaining and thrilling with another round of seven races on the cards.
The second day of Cheltenham kicks off same as the last with a wetting of appetite before the feature race comes in at the climax hour of the day to deliver a masterpiece. The BALLYMORE NOVICES’ HURDLE race kicks off hostilities at the same time as day one, with a number of new faces going two miles and about five furlongs. The prize money is subject to change at The Festival races, so, as long as they are not official, they can be subject to some tweaking. At this point the prize money for the races have not yet been declared, but what we are sure will happen is the FESTIVAL NOVICES’ STEEPLECHASE coming up next, a Grade 1 race that runs for three miles and about half a furlong.
The following race, the CORAL CUP HURDLE run for two miles and five furlongs, tees up the feature race of the day beautifully, as the BETWAY QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION STEEPLECHASE, takes central stage and gives both fans and pundits their money’s worth. The
race comes just at the height of the day, at 3:30 pm and runs for just two miles. Up next is the GLENFACLAS CROSS COUNTRY STEEPLECHASE, with the longest distance of the day at three miles and six furlongs. This distance is more than a mile longer than the feature race and should give those who love distance quite the run. At this point, just two races are left on the card, with the JOHNNY HENDERSON GRAND ANNUAL HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE CHALLENGE CUP coming on for a distance of two miles and half a furlong. The last race of the day is the WEATHERBY CHAMPION BUMPER.
