79 year-old Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas was trying to become the first trainer to win a grade one Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred race at Los Alamitos. Lukas brought his gutty filly Take Charge Brandi who won last month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at odds of 61-1. A victory by Lukas’ filly all but sews up an Eclipse Award for outstanding juvenile filly.
